Fatima Reyes is an actress, and has studied various forms of arts over the past 10+ plus years. She has practiced and studied piano, dance including ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap and pointe. She delved into modeling, viola and guitar as well. Additionally, Reyes has delved into fashion and focused on refining her sewing skills. Reyes' main focus has been acting, but she has also taken weekly voice lessons over the past four years.
Reyes attends Pepperdine University now, entering her senior year as she majors in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in acting, as well as minoring in Hispanic Studies. Her recent performances include Ginvera in the west coast premiere of Villette, written by Charlotte Brontë and adapted by Sara Gmitter and had the opportunity to gender-bend Sebastian in The Tempest into Sebastiana.
Fatima is extremely passionate about acting, but she also focuses on portraying stories about Hispanic women and families that derive from authenticity, consciousness and connection. She finds it is important to portray Hispanic characters that are rooted in genuine and everyday life as well as telling stories that highlights her culture.
This summer she will be attending the Fringe Festival with Pepperdine University to create conversations about climate change in a new show, "nobody is coming to save us."
Reyes is entering her last year at Pepperdine University, majoring in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in acting, as well as minoring in Hispanic Studies. She has focused on Uta Hagen, Stanislavsky, Alexander Technique, and Chekov. Reyes still continues to practice dance, piano and voice lessons weekly.
Reyes interned at the Cannes Film Festival through The American Pavilion Program focusing on publicity and personal relations/media management. She got to work under Karen Lucente's wing where she got to research and craft press releases. Reyes was able to communicate and meet various media websites and magazines while handling and managing attendance at panels. (Reyes also was able to watch the premiere of "Asteroid City," by Wes Anderson!)
Reel's Film Festival is one of the most prized nights at Pepperdine University where selected students' short films are premiered for crowds. There are also various awards highlighting acting, cinematography, editing and the films as a whole. Reyes attended for the first time as a lead in "Poems on a Monday," directed by Hannah Huynh. Her second year, she attended as a lead in "Disconnected," by Hali Orefice, which won 6/8 awards that same night.
"Basement Talk," is the title of the radio show Reyes cohosts with her roommate, Sofia Reyes (to everyone’s disbelief, is not her sister). They have cohosted this radio show for three years so far where they weekly curate playlists to broadcast while simultaneously talking about their life and topics that are trending. They show their personal interests through authenticity and the music they both combine into a themed playlist.
Reyes delved into and focused on screen acting for the first time at Cathryn Sullivan's acting for the camera studio. She continued to attend weekly classes and intensives where she got to focus on scene work, character work and on set location filming. Reyes also was able to intern as a front desk assistant.
Reyes has always been intrigued and passionate about fashion. She took on the job as a seamstress at Pepperdine University's costume shop where she is able to enhance and work on her sewing and creation skills while working on production costumes.
